Anti-Hazing Statement
Policy Statement on Hazing Nu Omega Psi Sorority, Inc. strictly forbids hazing. Hazing is defined as any act or tradition that endangers the physical, mental or emotional well-being of an Associate and/or Initiated member. Requests or suggestions to violate any university, city, county, state or Sorority law is included in this definition. Mental or physical degradation of any member, associate or initiated, is considered hazing by Nu Omega Psi Sorority, Inc. Requests of personal or menial tasks regardless of intent or consent are forbidden.
Examples of hazing include, but not limited to: embarrassing and or required stunts and costumes, harassing, interrogation, kidnapping, personal services, consumption of unwanted substances on command or deprivation of sleep. Any action that tends to diminish the self-esteem and dignity of any member is also considered hazing. Chapters and colonies are not permitted to allow any form of hazing. Any chapter officer found responsible for allowing such activities shall be removed from office.
Hazing corrupts the true nature of sorority life. It negates the values of loyalty, hope, trust, support, friendship, kindness and compassion. The moral integrity of the chapter is inseparable from the conduct of its members. Nu Omega Psi Sorority, Inc. supports the integrity and dignity of women, basic human rights, decency, honor, gracious living and positive reinforcement of each other. There is no place for hazing in our sorority.
Violation of the Hazing Policy by an initiated member, associate member, colony or chapter will result in a review of membership by the Sorority Board of Directors. The potential result of a hazing violation may lead to termination of membership or suspension, withdrawal or dissolution of charter.
Policy Statement on Human Dignity
Nu Omega Psi Sorority, Inc. has, since inception, encouraged each member to strive for self-respect and self-knowledge in an effort to foster the personal development of each member. Nu Omega Psi supports the concept of equality and is committed to building a society where human judgments are based on merit, without regard to gender, race, religious preference, sexual orientation or disability. The sorority is committed to eliminating sexual harassment by educating her members about their personal worth. Nu Omega Psi firmly repudiates actions and statements that negate the concepts of self-respect, personal development, equality and dignity.
Nu Omega Psi Sorority, Inc. expects that:
- Each chapter will express its disapproval of hazing
- Each chapter will afford its members the opportunity to be informed about those issues facing collegiate women (at this time such as substance abuse, sexual harassment, and AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases).
- Each chapter will decline to participate in activities degrading and demeaning to women, men or persons with disabilities.
- Each member will decline to participate in activities based in any negative manner regarding religion, sexual orientation or race.
- Each member will decline to join any sorority auxiliary group.
- Nu Omega Psi affirms her commitment to human dignity.
